This season, we've teamed up with Daniel Johnston's friends and family and the 'Hi, How Are You Project' to spark new conversations about mental health issues by funding and creating thoughtful media content, projects and events. We support their mission to remove the stigma and shame surrounding mental health, so that people feel free to communicate in one-on-one conversations.

To raise awareness, we're proud to present the Vans x Daniel Johnston Skate Sk8-Hi, featuring Daniel's iconic cassette tapes on the premium suede and 283g canvas upper. In his early years as a songwriter, Daniel drew on individual cassette tapes and gave them to friends and strangers. The art on this shoe includes a checkerboard made from these cassette tapes, as well as the same lo-fi, raw rendition of his iconic art.

Standout skate features include the updated DURACAP™ reinforced underlayers and all-new upper, combined with a new two-piece foxing tape and deeper knurling on the toe cap, making the Skate Sk8-Hi durable enough to withstand everyday skateboarding. The new molded heel counter and internal tongue straps keep your feet firmly in place for more board control. Even the Vans gum rubber sole has been enhanced with the SICKSTICK™ rubber compound for more grip and boardfeel. The POPCUSH™ energy return insole provides superior cushioning and impact protection and helps reduce leg fatigue during longer skate sessions. The reinforced inside of the heel offers more support and stability.
